Question about blocks

Another one from series: Betkowski doesn’t know anything!

Hello everyone. I’m making a simple game in which I need to have rooms made of blocks, Like this:

Question is: To make rooms, should I use single blocks, let’s say 32 x 32, and just put them in one after another, or should I use some kind of software for it, like ogmo? What is the most efficient way, baring in mind I want to keep it really simple.

Ogmo is about as simple as it gets and will save you a HUGE amount of time. You might spend an hour setting it up, but that is nothing compared to the many hours you’ll save when creating your levels. You’ll save even more once it comes to tweaking the levels for difficulty etc.

Yeah, ok, but it takes some time to learn how to apply an ogmo map, and I have no idea how to do that (I’ve seen a thread or two about it), it just seems mindblowing. So nobody just writes “block after block” anymore?

Sorry for spam, just bumping this guy, I’m trying block after block, and it is a proper pain. You were right, @Ultima2876.

Zachary Lewis made a great series of tutorials for using Ogmo with Flashpunk. I followed an earlier version of these tutorials a few years ago, and now I reuse that level-loading code for most of my projects.

Here’s the first video.
