Best way to balance a tower defence game

(Adam Edney) #1

I basically complete my tower defence game and I was wondering what is the best way to balance it. I have three different groups of towers and three different groups of enemies which all have 4 types in each group. So my question is what’s the best / most logical method of creating a balance game so wave 6 isn’t too power compared to wave 10 and a upgrade for a towers isn’t too powerful.

Any suggestion would be great as I have a few ideas for creating a indexes e.g. (100 damage = 3.4 gold) then I can use this to set the upgrade costs.

My only advice for this (having never made a proper tower defense game myself) is to look at other popular TD games (Bloons and Kingdom Rush come to mind) and examine how they do it.

Why not let people testplay it annd adjust it with their critic?

Yeah, playtesting it yourself and with others is the best surefire way to balance something. You’ll never know if something is balanced before you test it.
