SUMO, a 2-4player competitive pushing game

(TaylorAnderson) #1

Hey!

I’ve been making a 2-player game over the last few days, called Sumo.

Its a game about pushing your opponent out of the ring by pushing at the right moment in the right position. Unfortunately I haven’t gotten a whole lot of chances to test it out to see what does and doesn’t work when playing with 2 players. I’ve been getting my friend to play with his brothers, but it’d be really nice if I could get more feedback. If this sounds like something you’d be into, and you have a friend who’d be willing to try out a game with you, I would really appreciate it if you gave it a shot and let me know what you think!

You can play the game here: http://fourthfloorgames.itch.io/sumo?secret=rm5uIPvmtKQFy26vD8cWcgKkXVI%3D

Quick note: in the second round, when both players go out of the ring at the same time, victory is automatically awarded to who won the first round.
Other than that me and my sister liked it!

Yeah the next thing I’m gonna have to figure out what to do when there’s a tie. Probably deathmatch in a very small arena or something. Glad you and your sister liked it!

EDIT: now that i think about it…what if you tie the deathmatch? i have to think about this…

cool idea , but if I want to restart game I always refresh web screen. I think you should create restart button

right now the game is very early, someone has to win the best of 3 in order to restart. later on i’ll give full control to go back to the main menu, but right now im just testing gameplay

Just added a new gamemode called SUMOBALL! Same controls, except this time your trying to get a ball into your opponents goal!

Try it here: http://fourthfloorgames.itch.io/sumo?secret=rm5uIPvmtKQFy26vD8cWcgKkXVI%3D

That last update reminds me of hokra. Visually speaking, anyway. Haven’t had a chance to play it yet, since I have no friends nearby.

Yeah, its got the sounds of bara bari ball and the visual design of hokra, i basically am taking all my inspiration from sportsfriends :stuck_out_tongue:

Just realized I haven’t updated this topic in…quite a while. So much has changed!

-Controller support is in. Specifically Xbox 360 and Xbox One controllers. (keyboard support has been removed, because…)

-The game is now 2-4 players instead of just 2

-The game has received a WHOLE LOT of visual changes and updates since I last posted. It’s basically a different game now.

-A new attack type has been added: you can now fire projectiles

-You can now choose between 8 levels.

-SumoBall has been removed (I may actually spin it off into an entirely new game after I’m done with this one)

These are all the major changes, although there is a whole bunch of smaller ones that you’ll have to see for yourself.

The game is almost complete, it just needs testing. If you guys have two or more controllers and friends to play with, and want to test this game, let me know! It would be greatly appreciated.

Here are some screens of the game so far:
